Chieftain Room

CHIEFTAIN ROOM

THE ROOM

The Chieftain Room offers some of the very best furniture design from the Danish Modern Era. The presence of the Chieftain is magnificent and as a former guest expressed:

"Sometimes words are simply not enough. It’s beautiful. Staying in the Chieftain Room at the House of Finn Juhl Hakuba was such a pleasure. I think I sat admiring the chair more than I actually sat on it!"

The room is furnished with a queen size bed with a customised headboard, luggage bench, wardrobe and a small Nyhavn Table with an appertaining Egyptian Chair.

All hotel bathrooms are light and fully renovated with wooden floors.

THE ROOMS SIGNATURE FURNITURE - THE CHIEFTAIN CHAIR

The iconic Chieftain Chair is one of Finn Juhl’s absolute masterpieces, representing the peak of his career as a furniture designer. At its introduction in 1949, the chair marked a renewal of the Danish  design tradition.

Today, it is perceived as one of the most important exponents of the Danish Modern movement in the US during the 1950s. For this reason, Finn Juhl is often considered the father of Danish Modern.

Inspired by modern art, the Chieftain Chair with its organic shapes, liberated itself from traditional Danish furniture design and strict functionalism in both shape, construction and materials.

In 2012, the Chieftain Chair won the Danish Design Award in the category Classic.

THE HAKUBA HOTEL

The small town of Hakuba, located in a valley surrounded by the Japanese alps, houses a lodge, that has now been transformed into a beautiful Danish/ Japanese design hotel.

Everywhere the hotel exudes a sense of downplayed elegance - from the soft bedlinen and organic toiletries to the cosy lighting.
